The Wrap Me In Memories® Program was developed in 2015 for people living with dementia and their families. Its success led to it being extended and delivered within the Care Beyond Cure initiative in Tasmania in 2018/2019, for people living with life limiting illness and their families and carers.
For people living with life limiting and terminal illnesses, spending time with family in positive and connecting ways and having an opportunity to reflect on and share their personal and family histories are critical aspects of their health and well being. For families, loved ones and carers, the emotional and physical stresses of caring for a person living with a life limiting or terminal illness, can negatively impact the quality of individual and family connections with the ill person. The sharing of memories often does not occur and they can be lost forever once the person dies. As a consequence, bereavement and grieving (both before and after the death of a loved one) processes can be more difficult and more protracted.
The Wrap Me In Memories® program addresses all of these issues, contributing to the wellbeing of people living with life limiting and terminal illnesses and their families and loved ones through drawing them together in a relaxed and supportive environment; sharing time in the making of an art based memory object; where memories and connections are deepened and made throughout the process.
